Nino Drowaert founded STSK9® in 2016. Nino is a 20-year veteran of the Belgium’s biggest metropolitan police department (APD), spending 8 years in its patrol division, 11 years as a K9 handler and finally 5 years Head Trainer and supervisor of the K9 Unit. His skills in coaching handlers and training dogs in addition to the fact that he holds the record number of K9 deployments and arrests made him an obvious departmental choice for the position of Nationally Certified Head Trainer for the largest police department in Belgium.
As the K-9 unit supervisor and head trainer Nino was responsible for the professional competency and continuous improvement of the K9 teams’ tactical and operational skills.
Nino was also in charge of the selection and procurement of dogs for the APD and their development alongside their handlers.
Although his primary connection to dog training has been through his police K9 duties, Nino’s enduring passion for working dogs has also immersed him in the world of sport. He has earned the reputation of being one of the world’s best in puppy rearing and development. Many other prominent trainers predominantly outsource this important period of a dog’s life. His expertise in puppies, high performance dog training and implementation of his system in Law Enforcement made him a much sought after subject matter expert in all parts of the world. In 2016
In 2016 the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) invited Nino to teach at its Amberly base.
Nino became the first European police instructor to travel to the RAAF and teach the implementation of his training system for law enforcement and military. SASR (Special Air Service Regiment) and Second Commando Regiment also participated in the three-day workshop.
Nino’s strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to skillfully implement his UltimateControl® system form the core of STSK9’s value proposition for its clients.
Anno 2019, Nino is still member of the Antwerp Police Department and on a leave of absence.
